Hematology Research and Clinical Trials Unit (HRCTU) - VGH

IDENTITY

A unit of Vancouver General Hospital, HRCTU treats various cancers and diseases of the blood such as leukemia and multiple myeloma for people living in British Columbia. Instilling a connection between hematology and British Columbia was paramount to their identity. Through our research, Martin Design Studio identified that the provincial flower, the Pacific Dogwood, was originally used by the indigenous people as a "blood purifier" medicine. This historical link between hematology and the provincial flower is the foundation of the identity. The strong and graceful representation of the flower captures the indigenous “essence” and “feel” and reinforces the idea that this is a British Columbia program.
